Buildit Challenge in the News

4/4/19. Our First Public Event

Students from four school districts and homeschoolers from around the Miami Valley joined our community of hands-on learners for the first Buildit Challenge event open to all kids ages 6 - 18. This pilot program was made possible through a cooperative agreement with the Mall at Fairfield Commons and generous support from the Vectren foundation. Buildit Challenge can inspire young people to come together beyond the walls of a school building. Our goal with the public events program is to support a robust S.T.E.M. community of learners across the Miami Valley - building a wave of S.T.E.M. innovators in the next generation.

2/19/19. Calling Young Inventors!

Buildit Challenge is an approved student organization for Invention League. This organization is changing the world by introducing young innovators to the inventing process. If your school or homeschool group is not already participating in the Invention Convention, you can bring your Invention Convention project to the Buildit Challenge for review. If your project is selected, you become eligible to participate in the Ohio Invention Convention. This is a free event at the Ohio State Fair that also earns free admission to the fair for the inventor and one chaperone, and there are scholarships and other prizes awarded at the event.

10/19/18. Introducing Online Judging!

With generous support from Southwest Ohio Givecamp, Buildit Challenge adopts a software system to improve the quality, speed, and transparency of the award process during the Buildit Challenge events. Now, judges record scores using smartphones. This allows the event to happen in real time and makes it much more exciting for participants and audience members. The software generates individual scorecards for each project that participants receive after the event.

2/28/18. Buildit Challenge Honored as “Recycler of the Year”.

In partnership with the Wayne-Local School District, Buildit Challenge was named a recipient of the Warren County Solid Waste Management District Recycler of the Year award. Each year this award honors local organizations that have made an effort to recycle and reduce waste. This award recognizes the efforts of Buildit Challenge to encourage young innovators to create original projects by repurposing everyday materials and recyclables.
